Zona nyaman ketiga OS besar tersebut harus terusik dengan hadirnya tiga OS terbaru yang dalam waktu dekat akan menginvasi dunia ponsel pintar. Firefox, Tizen, dan juga Ubuntu menjadi lawan baru yang tidak bisa dianggap enteng. Karena ketiga nama tersebut bukanlah pemain baru pula. Mungkin satu nama yang memang masih terdengar asing seperti Tizen. Tapi jika melihat dalang dari terciptanya Tizen, maka OS baru ini tetap menjadi calon kuat menjadi ancaman para pemain lama.

1. Firefox
Firefox yang dikenal dengan logo rubah apinya ini, sudah memiliki nama sebagai salah satau perangkat lunak peramban atau browser.
OS yang dikembangkan oleh Mozzilla Foundation ini menjadikan sistem operasi miliknya berbasis Open Source. Awalnya proyek dari OS Firefox sendiri memiliki nama “Boot to Gecko” (B2G). Rencana awalnya hanya berupa proyek sistem operasi berbasis web terbuka dari Mozilla yang diumumkan pada 25 Juli 2011. Pada akhirnya OS Firefox menjadi sebuah sistem operasi yang sepenuhnya terbuka dan aplikasi yang dikembangkan dengan teknologi HTML5. Banyak dukungan yang didapatkan Mozilla untuk OS Firefox-nya. Produsen ponsel seperti ZTE dan juga TCL dengan tegas memberikan dukungan dan nantinya siap untuk memproduksi perangkat bersistem operasi Firefox. Dimana salah satu spesifikasinya akan menggunakan prosesor Snapdragon dari Qualcomm, dan dalam waktu dekat kedua brand tersebut akan meluncurkan ponsel pintar berbasis Firefox tahun 2013 ini.

Namun rencana besar dari Tizen tidak hanya untuk mendominasi perangkat ponsel dan tablet saja, tapi juga perangkatmultimedia dalam kendaraan, televisi, dan sebagainya. Seiring waktu proyek yang dikerjakan Linux Foundation, Samsung dan produsen prosesor Intel menjadi semakin besar. Ditunjang pula dua nama yakni Samsung dan juga Intel menjadi donatur. Saat ini sistem operasi Tizen mendapat dukungan dari salah satu operator asal Amerika yang rencananya akan turut membantu produk Tizen di masa depan. Tizen versi 1.0 hadir dengan nama Larkspur pada 2012, tak lama berselang Tizen kembali meluncurkan versi keduanya dengan nama Magnolia. Di kuartal pertama ini, kabarnya Samsung akan memperkenalkan produk ponsel pintarnya yang sudah menggunakanOS Tizen 2.0, bukan Android lagi. Langkah yang diambil karena Google mengakuisisi Motorola yang ditakutkan akan diistimewakan. Untuk itu Samsung kini berusaha untuk tidak terlalu bergantung pada Android.

Sistem operasi yang dibangun dengan kernel Linux pertama kali diperkenalkan pada tanggal 3 Januari 2013 lalu. Karakter sistem yang dimiliki oleh Ubuntu Phone OS mirip dengan Android sehingga nantinya pengguna akan cepat terbiasa dengan Ubuntu Phone OS dan memudahkan vendor untuk menyuntikan sistem tersebut kedalam ponsel pintar. Nantinya Ubuntu Phone OS dapat berjalan dengan prosesor berasitektur ARM dan X86. Canonical, selaku pengembang dari Ubuntu menginginkan Ubuntu Phone OS dapat menjangkau pengguna segmen kelas menengah ke bawah dan atas. Salah satu keunikan dari Ubuntu Phone OS yaitu adanya fitur untuk mengubah tampilan ponsel menjadi mode desktop secara utuh ketika ponselnya terhubung dengan docking station. Dan saat terhubung, pengguna dapat menggunakan fitur Ubuntu secara lengkap. Ubuntu Phone OS juga memiliki fitur multitasking yang mempermudah akses untuk beberapa aplikasi yang tersedia.
